What you will learn

Civil Engineering Technology is a hands-on program that teaches you how to plan, design, and build the infrastructure we rely on every day. You will work with advanced math and science to solve real-world problems involving roads, bridges, water systems, and buildings. In the classroom and in the lab, you will learn to draft precise engineering plans, analyse structural loads, and test construction materials like concrete, steel, and soil. You will also develop the communication and teamwork skills needed to work alongside engineers, contractors, and government agencies. By the time you finish, you will be ready to step into a technical role on a construction site or in an engineering office.

How the program runs

This is a full-time program that runs for three years, or six terms, on the Benchlands Campus. You will start in September and attend classes through the spring and summer terms. Your schedule includes lectures, laboratory sessions, and design studios where you put theory into practice. The program includes a co-op work term, which gives you paid, full-time industry experience before you graduate. You will work alongside professionals, apply what you have learned in class, and build a network of contacts in the field. The co-op placement is coordinated through our Co-op & Career Services office, and there is no extra fee to participate in a co-op work term.

Admission

To enter this program, you must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or an equivalent qualification. You are also required to have completed Grade 12 math (C or U) and Grade 12 English (C or U), with a minimum grade of 60% in each subject. If you are 19 or older by the start of classes, you may qualify as a mature student. International applicants must provide proof of English proficiency through an accepted test or equivalent completed education. After you graduate

Graduates of the Civil Engineering Technology program are prepared for immediate employment in the construction, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. You will have the technical skills to work as a civil engineering technician, construction inspector, or materials testing specialist. Many employers value the co-op experience you gain during the program, which gives you a head start in the job market. You can also choose to continue your education by transferring credits to a four-year applied bachelor's degree program at Wrenford Polytechnic or another institution. Our Co-op & Career Services office, located in the Student Union Building, offers resume workshops, job search support, and interview preparation to help you land your first role.
