The Geomatics Technician program gives you the practical skills to measure land, create maps, and manage geospatial data. You will work with surveying instruments, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing technology in hands-on labs and field exercises. The program is taught by industry professionals at our Benchlands Campus and prepares you for immediate entry into the surveying and mapping sectors.

What you will learn
Surveying and mapping are the foundation of construction, infrastructure, and environmental planning. In this program, you will learn how to collect, analyse, and present spatial data using modern tools and techniques. You will measure land boundaries, operate total stations and GPS equipment, and process field data into accurate maps. You will also work with geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing software to manage large datasets. Classes combine theory with practical lab work and outdoor field exercises so you graduate ready to perform on site.
How the program runs
The program is delivered full-time at the Benchlands Campus and runs for two years, or four terms. You will attend lectures, laboratory sessions, and field trips throughout the academic year. All 13 required courses are designed to build your technical skills step by step, starting with basic surveying principles and moving into advanced data management and geospatial analysis. You will complete 13 courses over the two years, including technical mathematics, digital communication, and specialized geomatics modules. The program does not include a co-op work term, but field placements and industry visits are built into the curriculum to connect you with local employers.
Admission
To enter the program, you must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or qualify as a mature student (19 or older by the start of classes). You must have completed Grade 12 English (C or U) with a minimum grade of 60%. Engineering-technology programs at Wrenford Polytechnic require Grade 12 math (C or U) with a minimum grade of 60%, so please ensure your mathematics background meets this standard. International applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency through an approved test or equivalent coursework. We review applications on a first-come, first-served basis once all minimum requirements are met.
Tuition and fees
Domestic tuition for an Ontario College Diploma is $4,110 per year for 2026–27. You will also pay annual ancillary fees of $1,125, which cover campus services, student associations, and health benefits. Tuition is due before the start of each term. Financial aid, bursaries, and payment plans are available through Student Financial Aid. Visit Tuition & Fees for a full breakdown of costs and payment deadlines.
After you graduate
Graduates are prepared to work immediately in surveying, mapping, and geospatial data roles. Employers in the civil engineering, construction, and environmental sectors hire our graduates to support land development, infrastructure projects, and resource management. The program also provides a strong foundation for students who wish to transfer credits to a four-year applied degree or a university bachelor program in geomatics, geography, or environmental science. You can explore transfer options through Transfer credit requests.
How to apply
Domestic applicants apply through the provincial college application service. There is no application fee to submit an application to Wrenford Polytechnic. International applicants must use the polytechnic's own application form. You can upload your transcripts and language scores through the student portal once your application is received. Visit How to apply for step-by-step instructions, required documents, and important dates. For questions about the program, contact the Civil Engineering & Geomatics department or reach out to the Admissions office.
