Introduction to land surveying principles, field techniques, and data collection methods for geomatics technicians.
About this course
This course introduces the core principles and practical techniques used in modern land surveying. You will learn how to collect, process, and verify field data using both traditional optical and digital electronic instruments. The focus is on the skills required to become a competent geomatics technician, with an emphasis on accuracy, precision, and professional standards.
You will spend significant time outdoors in the field, gaining hands-on experience with total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and leveling equipment. You will learn to conduct boundary surveys, topographic mapping, and construction staking. In the classroom, you will process your field data, perform error analysis, and produce the documentation required for legal and engineering applications.
