What you will learn
As a Mechanical Engineering Technology student, you will study how machines move, how energy transfers, and how to design systems that are safe, efficient, and sustainable. You will work through applied mathematics, physics, and materials science while practising in our shops and labs at the Benchlands Campus. The curriculum covers thermodynamics, fluid power, machine design, and electrical fundamentals, giving you the tools to solve real engineering problems. You will also learn to communicate technical ideas clearly and work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
How the program runs
This full-time Ontario College Advanced Diploma takes three years (six terms) to complete. Classes are held at the Benchlands Campus, where you will have access to modern workshops for machining, fabrication, and testing. You can begin your studies in September or January. The program includes three paid co-op work terms, allowing you to gain hands-on experience with industry partners before you graduate. You will complete a capstone project in your final term to bring together the design and analysis skills you have developed.
Admission
Applicants must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or qualify as a mature student (19 or older by the start of classes). You must also meet the English requirement, which is a Grade 12 English (C or U) with a minimum grade of 60%. For engineering-technology programs, you need Grade 12 math (C or U) with a minimum grade of 60%.
International students must provide proof of English proficiency through an accepted test or equivalent coursework. Qualified applicants are offered admission on a first-come, first-served basis. You can apply through the provincial college application service.
Tuition and fees
Domestic tuition is $4,260 per year for the 2026–27 academic year. Ancillary fees are separate and cost $1,125 per year. Financial aid, scholarships, and bursaries are available to help cover the cost of your education. You can set up a tuition payment plan through Student Financial Aid.
After you graduate
Graduates are prepared to work as mechanical design technologists, manufacturing engineering technologists, automation systems technologists, or power plant technicians. The three paid co-op work terms mean you will graduate with a professional network and practical experience that employers value. With additional experience, you may also pursue certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist or a Professional Technologist through the provincial engineering technologist association.
How to apply
Domestic full-time applicants apply through the provincial college application service. You can submit your application any time, but early applications are encouraged. International applicants must use the polytechnic's own international application form. Visit the Admissions page for deadlines, required documents, and fee waiver information.
