How co-op works

What co-op is

Work-integrated learning gives you real job experience while you study. At Wrenford Polytechnic, co-op places you in a paid role with a local employer. You apply what you learn in class, build your professional network, and graduate with a resume that shows you can do the work.

Who can take part

Co-op is built into specific programs. Look for the co-op label on the program page. If your program does not list co-op, you can still gain experience through our volunteer and student job board.

How the process works

You do not apply for a co-op job through the provincial college application service. Instead, you register for the work term in myWrenford when your program reaches the placement stage. After you register, follow these steps.

Step one: pre-employment workshops
You must attend mandatory workshops before you start your placement. These sessions cover workplace safety, professional communication, and how to present your skills to an employer.

Step two: job search and matching
You will search for open positions on our job board. You submit your resume and cover letter, and you interview with hiring managers. Our staff review your options and help you accept a placement that fits your career goals.

Step three: work term and evaluation
You work on-site with your employer. Your program coordinator and our co-op staff check in with you regularly to make sure the experience matches your learning goals. At the end of the term, you complete a self-evaluation and your employer fills out a performance review.

Co-op programs include three paid work terms.

Applied bachelor's degrees follow a slightly different path. A Bachelor of Applied Technology or Bachelor of Applied Business degree includes one 14-week placement instead of three separate terms.

Fees and deadlines

There is no extra fee to participate in a co-op work term. Your regular tuition covers the coordination and workshop support. You must register for your work term in myWrenford by the deadline listed on your program page. Missing the registration deadline may delay your placement.
