Courses

What you will learn

Electricity runs everything from manufacturing plants to smart buildings. In this program, you will learn how to design, install, and maintain the electrical systems that keep these facilities running safely and efficiently. You will start with the basics of circuit analysis and electrical safety, then move into more advanced topics like power distribution, industrial electronics, and smart grid technologies.

Our labs in the Escarpment Building are set up to mirror real industrial environments. You will work with the same tools and equipment used by professionals in the field. You will learn how to read complex blueprints, program control systems, and troubleshoot electrical faults before they cause downtime. You will also explore renewable energy systems and learn how to integrate solar and wind power into existing grids.

How the program runs

This is a full-time program delivered over six terms at our Benchlands Campus. Classes are held in the Escarpment Building, where you will have access to our electrical and electronics engineering technology labs. You will start in September or January, depending on your intake.

You will take core courses in mathematics, communication, and electrical theory. You will also complete three paid work terms as part of your studies. Our co-op program places you in real workplaces where you will apply what you have learned in a professional setting. You will work alongside licensed engineers and technicians to gain practical experience. There is no extra fee to participate in a co-op work term, and your tuition covers all coordination and workshop support.

Tuition and fees

Domestic tuition is $4,260 per year for the 2026–27 academic year. You will also pay ancillary fees of $1,125 per year, which cover student services, library access, and athletic facilities. These fees are separate from your tuition. Payment is due before the start of each term. You can set up a payment plan through Student Financial Aid if you need to spread the cost over several months.

After you graduate

Graduates of this program are ready to work in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, power generation, construction, and renewable energy. You will qualify for roles such as electrical engineering technologist, power systems technician, industrial electronics technician, control systems designer, renewable energy systems installer, and maintenance engineer. Many of our alumni go on to work for regional manufacturers, utility companies, and engineering firms across Ontario.

If you want to continue your education, you can apply to our four-year applied bachelor's degree programs. Your completed diploma and co-op experience will give you a strong foundation for advanced study.
