Kestrel Centre hours

What you can do here

The Kestrel Centre is home to the gymnasium, fitness centre, and athletics office on the Benchlands Campus. You can work out on your own, join an intramural league, or try out for a varsity team.

Hours of operation

The gymnasium and fitness centre stay open most days, but hours change during breaks and holidays. Check the schedule on the athletics portal before you head out.

  • Gymnasium: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Fitness centre: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Athletics office: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The centre closes on statutory holidays and during reading weeks. Short breaks between terms may also affect access. If you need to use a space outside these hours for a team practice or event, you must book it through the athletics office.

How to book a session

You can book the gymnasium and fitness centre using the athletics portal. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the athletics portal with your student credentials.
  2. Click Book a gym session and choose the Kestrel Centre.
  3. Pick a date and time slot. Green slots are open; blue slots are full.
  4. Confirm your booking. You will get an email confirmation.

You can book up to two sessions per week. If you need a space for a club meeting or a tournament, contact the athletics office directly.

Who is it for

Anyone enrolled at Wrenford Polytechnic can use the gymnasium and fitness centre. You do not need to be on a team to work out. Varsity athletes use the space for daily practice and games. The athletics office also helps students join intramural leagues or volunteer as a referee.

Fees and deadlines

Using the gym and fitness centre is free for all enrolled students. The cost is covered by your annual student ancillary fees. If you want to join a varsity team, there is a registration fee of $150 per term. This covers your uniform, practice gear, and competition insurance. Financial support is available through the provincial college athletics scholarship program if the fee is a barrier. Tryout registration opens in August for the fall season and in January for the spring season. Apply for a team tryout for the next opening.

Rules and safety

Always wear closed-toe shoes and athletic clothing. Bring a towel and a water bottle. The fitness centre has a strict equipment limit, so you cannot reserve machines for long periods. Follow the posted guidelines on Fitness centre rules and listen to staff instructions. If you get injured while working out or playing, report it to the athletics office or visit the Health Centre.
