Fitness centre rules

Where to find us

The Kestrel Centre on the Benchlands Campus holds our gymnasium, fitness centre and athletics office. The fitness centre is open to all current students and staff. If you are a community member, contact the athletics office to ask about guest access.

Before you visit

You must complete the online Informed Consent Waiver form before your first visit. Keep a copy of your confirmation. You also need your student or staff photo ID to enter. Staff at the front desk will scan your card each time you come in. Verbal card numbers or printed screenshots are not accepted.

Hours of operation

Check the Kestrel Centre hours page for the current schedule. Hours change during reading weeks, exam periods and statutory holidays. If you need to book the main gym floor for a team or intramural event, use the online booking portal.

What to wear

Appropriate fitness attire is required at all times. You must wear closed-toe, non-marking athletic shoes. Do not wear jeans, shorts with zippers or rivets, or clothing with metal fasteners. A shirt that covers your torso is mandatory. We ask that you bring a water bottle and a small towel.

Using the equipment

Wipe down all machines and benches with the provided disinfectant spray and paper towels after you use them. Return free weights and kettlebells to their racks. Do not drop heavy weights on the floor; use the rubber mats in the free weight area. If any equipment seems damaged or makes a strange noise, report it to the front desk immediately so we can fix it. You may not take equipment out of the fitness centre or the movement studio.

Lockers and personal items

Lockers are available in the change rooms for day use only. Bring your own lock. Staff will cut off any locks left on a locker for more than one week and will hold the contents for fifteen days before discarding them. The college is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings. Store your bags in the provided cubbies or inside your locker. Do not leave items on the floor.

Food and drink policy

No food is allowed inside the fitness area. You may bring water in a sealed, non-glass container. Do not drink directly from the water fountains; use them to fill your bottle. We also do not accept glass bottles anywhere in the facility.

Behaviour and privacy

We expect all visitors to treat each other with respect. Foul, lewd, racist, or discriminatory language is strictly prohibited. Do not record or photograph other visitors without their permission. The use of cameras and video-enabled devices is not allowed in the change rooms, fitness floor or movement studio.
