About Wrenford Kestrels tryouts
Wrenford Kestrels represents the college in the provincial college athletics conference. We host men's and women's basketball, women's and men's volleyball, co-ed curling, co-ed badminton, and women's and men's soccer. This page covers how to submit eligibility and interest forms for Wrenford Kestrels varsity team selection.
Who can try out
Tryouts are open to any student who holds a valid student card and is in good academic standing. You must be enrolled in at least one course for the term you plan to play. International students on a study permit must maintain full-time status to remain eligible for varsity competition. Previous varsity experience is welcome but not required. First-year students who have just started their studies are eligible to try out for any team.
How to apply
We use a digital process to manage tryouts. Follow these steps to register your interest:
- Log in to myWrenford and open the Athletics & Recreation portal.
- Complete the Wrenford Kestrels eligibility form. You will need to upload a copy of your current student card and your most recent academic transcript.
- Submit the sport-specific interest form for the team you want to join. You can list up to two sports if you play multiple positions.
- Book a time for the skills assessment through the Kestrel Centre booking system.
All forms must be submitted by the deadline listed below. Incomplete applications will not be considered for the roster.
Tryout deadlines and fees
Tryouts run on a seasonal schedule. The deadlines are fixed and applications close at 4:30 p.m. on the due date.
- September tryouts (fall sports): August 25, 2026
- January tryouts (winter sports): December 28, 2026
- May tryouts (spring sports): April 28, 2027
There is no fee to submit a tryout application. However, once you make a team, you will be responsible for your own uniform and equipment costs. The college provides all practice gear, but players must cover the cost of competition jerseys and personal protective equipment where applicable. Financial assistance is available through the Athletics Equipment Fund if you submit a request to the athletics office before the season begins.
What happens after you apply
Coaches review all submissions within five business days. You will receive an email confirming your registration and providing your skills assessment appointment time. Assessment sessions are held at the Kestrel Centre for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, at Kestrel Field on the Benchlands Campus for soccer, and at the Benchlands Curling Club for curling. Bring your athletic shoes, a water bottle, and any personal protective equipment required for your sport. If you cannot attend your scheduled slot, contact the athletics office to arrange a makeup session.
