Program Description
Architecture and implementation of databases for complex geospatial applications.
About the course
This course explores the architecture and implementation of databases designed for complex geospatial applications. You will learn how to structure, store, and query spatial data efficiently, moving beyond standard relational databases to handle the unique requirements of geographic information systems.
Through a mix of lectures and hands-on labs, you will build a solid foundation in spatial data modelling, indexing, and SQL extensions for geometry. You will also explore how to integrate spatial databases with web mapping and mobile geomatics systems.
Who takes this course
This course is an elective for students in the following programs:
- Geomatics Technician
- Civil Engineering Technology
- GIS & Remote Sensing
- Civil Engineering & Geomatics faculty and staff
Credits: 3 · Hours: 45
Prerequisites
- GEOM 1580 Introduction to Geomatics
