What is a post-graduation work permit?
After you finish your program at Wrenford Polytechnic, you may be eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit. This permit allows you to work in Canada for up to three years, depending on the length of your program. You must submit your application within 180 days of receiving written confirmation that you have met all your graduation requirements.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify, you must meet the following conditions set by the federal immigration authority:
- Complete a full-time program of study at Wrenford Polytechnic that is at least eight months long.
- Have maintained full-time enrolment in every academic term of your program, except for your final term.
- Hold a valid study permit at the time you apply, or have maintained status if your permit expired.
- Be enrolled in a program that is eligible for the post-graduation work permit under current federal guidelines.
Working while you study and after graduation
While you are studying, you may work off-campus for up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions. You can work full-time during scheduled breaks, such as winter and summer holidays.
Once you receive written confirmation of your graduation, you may continue working full-time while your post-graduation work permit application is being processed, as long as you meet all eligibility requirements and your study permit is still valid or you have maintained status.
How to apply
- Gather your required documents, including your program completion letter, final official transcript, and a copy of your study permit.
- Complete the application form on the federal immigration authority website.
- Upload all documents in the correct format and pay the federal application fee.
- Submit your application within 180 days of your graduation confirmation date.
If your study permit expires before you receive a decision, you must maintain your legal status in Canada. You can apply for an extension or change of conditions before your current permit expires. If you leave Canada while your application is processing, you will need a valid visitor visa or electronic travel authorization to return.
Check your program eligibility
Not all programs are eligible for a post-graduation work permit. Federal guidelines require your program to meet specific field of study criteria. You can verify your program's eligibility through the international office or by reviewing the official program list. If your program is not eligible, you may explore other pathways to gain Canadian work experience.
