Summary

The Diagnostic & Laboratory Sciences department delivers hands-on training for medical laboratory and radiation technology careers.

About the department

The Diagnostic & Laboratory Sciences department covers the DLAB and MRAD subjects. You will learn how to analyse biological samples, operate advanced imaging equipment, and follow strict infection control protocols. Our courses blend classroom theory with supervised lab practice so you can enter a clinical setting ready to work.

Programs

Two full-time programs run through this department:

  • Medical Laboratory Technology — a three-year advanced diploma covering haematology, microbiology, chemistry and blood banking.
  • Medical Radiation Technology — a three-year advanced diploma covering diagnostic radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and radiation therapy.

Labs and facilities

Practical training happens in the simulation centre and specialist labs inside Corvid Hall (CH). You will use modern diagnostic equipment, practice sample collection and handling, and complete clinical placements at regional hospitals. All labs follow provincial health and safety rules. You must be 16 or older to enter the shops and labs; students under 18 need a signed consent form.

Department chair and contact

The department is led by Chair Samuel Abara. For questions about course scheduling, program prerequisites or lab safety requirements, contact the department office in Corvid Hall, Room 210. You can reach the office at 519-555-0170, ext. 4300. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
