About the school
Welcome to the School of Health Sciences at Wrenford Polytechnic. Led by Dean Celeste Okonkwo, our school prepares students for rewarding careers in patient care, diagnostic science, and health support. Located on the Benchlands Campus, we focus on practical, hands-on learning that matches the needs of Ontario's health sector.
You will work alongside experienced faculty and industry professionals in modern labs and clinical settings. Our programs emphasize real-world skills, ethical practice, and teamwork. Whether you are starting your first health career or building on existing experience, our faculty will guide you through your studies.
Our departments
The school is divided into three departments, each focused on a specific area of health care and support.
- Nursing — Trains students for roles in patient assessment, treatment, and care coordination. Faculty are led by Chair Margaret Ellison.
- Diagnostic & Laboratory Sciences — Prepares students to run clinical tests and analyse samples that help diagnose illness. Faculty are led by Chair Samuel Abara.
- Allied Health & Wellness — Covers support roles in pharmacy, fitness, personal support, and medical office administration. Faculty are led by Chair Chloé Bergeron.
Where you will learn
Most of our teaching and training takes place in Corvid Hall on the Benchlands Campus. The building houses our dedicated simulation centre, where you can practice clinical skills in a safe, controlled environment before entering real placements. You will also use specialised labs for chemistry, biology, and diagnostic equipment.
Our simulation centre features realistic patient rooms and medical equipment that mirror hospital and clinic settings. You will work through case studies, practice procedures, and receive feedback from instructors before ever touching a real patient. This approach builds your confidence and ensures you are ready for clinical rotations.
