School of Computing & Academic Studies

About the school

The School of Computing & Academic Studies sits on the Benchlands Campus and is led by Dean Martin Ostrowski. We prepare students for careers in technology, the sciences and education. Our programs mix classroom learning with hands-on projects so you can graduate ready for the workplace.

Our departments

Three departments make up the school. Each one focuses on a different area of study:

  • Computing & Information Technology (Chair: Anjali Deshmukh) covers computer systems, networks and cybersecurity. You will learn how to build, secure and manage the technology that runs modern businesses.
  • Mathematics & Sciences (Chair: Rebecca Thorne) covers the core math and science courses that support engineering, health and trades programs. You will solve real problems and use the latest lab equipment.
  • Communication & Liberal Studies (Chair: Kwame Asante) teaches writing, critical thinking and general education courses that all students need. You will learn how to communicate clearly and work well in teams.

Learning and campus life

Classes take place in the Kingfisher Building. You will have access to modern computer labs, science classrooms and the Falls Library & Learning Commons nearby. Our teachers are industry professionals who bring current experience into the classroom. We also offer academic support through the Falls Library & Learning Commons, where you can get tutoring or use the testing centre.

The Benchlands Campus is a busy place with gymnasiums, residence halls and food options. You can join student clubs, use the campus shuttle or park in Lot A, B or D. The school is right next to the library, so you can easily grab a book or meet with a tutor between classes.
