Program Description

Covers the mechanisms of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion specifically for pharmacy technicians.

About this course

Pharmacokinetics is the study of what the body does to a drug. In this course, you will learn how medications are absorbed, distributed, metabolised, and excreted. You will explore how these processes affect the way drugs work in the body and how you can use this knowledge in a pharmacy setting.

We focus on practical applications for pharmacy technicians. You will learn to recognise how different patient factors, such as age or kidney function, can change how a drug moves through the system. You will also practice communicating these concepts to patients and other health professionals.

Who takes this course

This course is part of the Pharmacy Technician program.

Credits: 3 · Hours: 45

Prerequisites

Learning outcomes

  • Explain the four main phases of pharmacokinetics: absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.
  • Describe how drug properties and patient factors influence how a medication moves through the body.
  • Calculate basic drug concentration changes over time using standard formulas.
  • Identify common drug interactions that affect how medications are processed.
  • Communicate pharmacokinetic principles clearly to patients and healthcare team members.
