Program Description

Principles of spatial data analysis, mapping, and database management.

About this course

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) form the backbone of modern geomatics. In this course, you move beyond simple mapping to learn how to manage, analyse, and visualise complex spatial data. You will work with real-world datasets to solve problems in land use, infrastructure planning, and environmental monitoring.

You will gain hands-on experience with professional GIS software, learning to build databases, run spatial queries, and produce detailed maps. The course combines theory with practical application, ensuring you leave with skills you can use in your co-op terms and future career.

Who takes this course

This course is a core requirement for students in the Geomatics Technician program. It is delivered at the Benchlands Campus.
