Analysis of modern power grid innovations, including smart meters, automation, and renewable integration.
About this course
ELNX 3820 Smart Grid Technologies explores the innovations transforming traditional power distribution. You will study the integration of advanced metering infrastructure, grid automation, and renewable energy systems. The course covers the technical and operational aspects of modernising electrical networks to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
You will examine how smart meters enable two-way communication between utilities and consumers, and how automation systems detect and isolate faults to maintain service. The curriculum also addresses the challenges of integrating variable renewable energy sources into the grid and the standards required for safe operation.
