Programming and interfacing of microcontrollers for embedded system control tasks.
Course overview
This course introduces the architecture, programming, and interfacing of microcontrollers used in modern embedded systems. You will learn to write low-level code in assembly and high-level code in C to control hardware peripherals. The curriculum covers timer/counter operations, interrupt handling, serial communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C), and analog-to-digital conversion.
Hands-on laboratory sessions in the Escarpment Building labs allow you to connect sensors, motors, and display modules to development boards. You will troubleshoot circuit and code issues using logic analysers and oscilloscopes, developing the practical skills needed for roles in automation, instrumentation, and embedded software development.
