Conflict of interest

What is a conflict of interest?

A conflict of interest happens when a personal, financial, or outside interest could improperly influence your duties or decisions at Wrenford Polytechnic. This policy covers students, faculty, staff, and members of the Board of Governors. The guidelines exist to keep our classrooms, labs, and workplaces fair and transparent for everyone.

Who this policy covers

It applies to anyone who carries out duties on behalf of the polytechnic. This includes classroom instructors, lab supervisors, administrative staff, student workers, and members of committees or boards. If your role involves grading, hiring, purchasing, or making decisions about college resources, you must follow these steps.

How to disclose and manage a conflict

If you notice a situation where your personal interests might clash with your responsibilities, you must act quickly. Follow these steps to manage the situation:

  1. Identify the conflict. Look for any outside relationships, financial ties, or personal connections that could affect your judgment or fairness.
  2. Disclose the situation. Complete the conflict of interest disclosure form in the myWrenford portal. You must submit the form within five business days of identifying the conflict.
  3. Await management instructions. Your supervisor or the relevant dean will review your disclosure. They will decide on the best way to manage the situation, which may include recusing yourself from a decision, transferring a student, or adjusting work duties.
  4. Follow the management plan. Once a plan is in place, adhere to it strictly. Do not discuss the details of the conflict with others in the workplace or classroom.

Deadlines and fees

There is no fee to submit a disclosure or request management. You must file the disclosure within five business days of recognizing the conflict. If you are unsure whether a situation qualifies, you can submit a preliminary inquiry at any time. Late disclosures are still accepted, but they may delay the management process.
