Request an accommodation

Request an accommodation

Requesting an accommodation is the process for students with disabilities to apply for academic and environmental adjustments. If you have a medical condition or disability that creates barriers to accessing education or showing your knowledge and ability, you may be eligible for support. This service is for all students, whether your condition is permanent or temporary.

Who can apply

Any student enrolled at Wrenford Polytechnic can apply. We support students with mental health conditions, neurological disabilities, chronic health conditions, and physical or sensory disabilities. You do not need a formal diagnosis to start the process, but you will need to provide documentation from a qualified professional.

How to apply

Follow these steps to set up your accommodations:

  1. Contact Accessibility Services. You can reach out by phone or email, or use the myWrenford student portal to begin your intake form.
  2. Submit documentation. You will need medical or professional documentation that outlines your barriers and recommended adjustments. Please note that students are responsible for paying doctor's fees to complete required medical documentation.
  3. Meet with an Accessibility Specialist. We will review your documentation together and discuss the barriers you face. You will work with us to create an accommodation plan that fits your program.
  4. Share your accommodation memo. Your Accessibility Specialist will email your instructors with the details of your approved accommodations. You can also meet with your instructors in a confidential setting to discuss how the adjustments will work in your classes.
  5. Keep us updated. If your needs change or if you need adjustments to your plan, let us know so we can update your memo.

Fees and deadlines

There is no fee for emergency procedures, safety escorts, or registering with Accessibility Services. You are responsible for paying doctor's fees to complete required medical documentation. We recommend you register at least six weeks before classes begin for standard accommodations. If you need complex accommodations, such as Braille textbooks or specialized assistive technology, please register four to six months before your program start date so we have enough time to arrange everything.

Common accommodations

Accommodations are tailored to your specific needs. Common adjustments include extended time for exams, a quiet testing environment, accessible course materials in alternate formats, permission to audio record lectures, and note-taking support. Your Accessibility Specialist will help you determine which adjustments are appropriate for your courses.

Manage your plan online

Once your plan is approved, you can manage it through the student portal. You can view your accommodation memos, request that they be sent to your instructors, and schedule any required testing with Accessibility Services. Logging in is straightforward and keeps your information secure and confidential.
