Connecting you with outside specialists
If you need support that goes beyond what we provide on campus, our staff can help you find outside specialists. This page is a directory of external agencies and professionals for legal, financial, or specialized medical help. You do not need to navigate these services alone.
Who this is for
Our on-campus Counselling & Wellness team focuses on mental health, stress management, and general student wellness. Sometimes, you will need a different kind of professional. If you require a psychiatrist, a specialized therapist, a family lawyer, a credit counsellor, or a specialist doctor, we will refer you to a trusted provider in the Wrenford area.
How the referral process works
Getting a referral is simple and free.
- Book a meeting with Counselling & Wellness. You can call 519-555-0184 or email [email protected].
- Share your situation with the counsellor. You can explain what kind of help you need and what barriers you are facing.
- The counsellor will review your needs and provide a short list of vetted external providers who match your situation.
- You will contact the provider directly to book your first appointment. Wrenford Polytechnic does not book these external appointments for you.
Common types of referrals
- Medical and psychological care: Referrals to psychiatrists, psychologists, and specialist clinics.
- Legal support: Referrals to duty counsel, family lawyers, and tenant rights advisors.
- Financial guidance: Referrals to credit counsellors, debt management agencies, and budgeting workshops.
- Specialized health services: Referrals to physiotherapists, dietitians, and addiction treatment centres.
Fees and coverage
Getting a referral from Wrenford Polytechnic is free. However, the external providers set their own fees.
- Medical and psychological services may be covered by the Wrenford Poly student health plan. Check your plan details or call Student Financial Aid at 519-555-0173 to understand your coverage.
- Legal and financial services are usually paid out of pocket. Many providers offer sliding-scale fees based on your income, or free initial consultations.
- Always ask the provider about their fees, payment plans, and accepted insurance before your first visit.
What to expect when you call
External providers have their own booking rules. Some may require a referral letter from your Wrenford Polytechnic counsellor, which we can provide upon request. Others may ask for proof of student status or income. Be ready to explain your situation clearly and ask about wait times. If a provider has a long wait, your counsellor can help you look for alternatives.
Important notes
We only refer you to licensed or accredited professionals. We do not endorse any specific provider over another. We simply provide a list of qualified options so you can choose what works best for you.
If you are in immediate danger or need crisis support, call 911 or visit the Health Centre. For immediate emotional support, see our crisis support page.
