What you can expect
If you have a disability, chronic health condition, or temporary injury that affects how you write exams, you can apply for accessible examination options. These options make sure your tests measure what you have learned, not how your disability affects your writing speed or environment.
You must register with Accessibility Services before your exams start. Once your accommodations are approved, the Testing Centre or your instructor will arrange them for you.
Who can apply
Accessible examination options are available to any student who has a documented need. This includes students with:
- Learning or cognitive disabilities
- Visual, auditory, or physical impairments
- Mental health conditions
- Temporary injuries, such as a broken arm
You do not need a new application for every term. If you already have an accommodation letter on file, you can proceed to the next step.
How to request your options
Follow these steps to set up your exams:
- Request your accommodations early. Use the Request academic accommodations form in myWrenford. You must submit your request at least ten business days before your first exam.
- Receive your accommodation letter. Accessibility Services will send you a letter outlining your approved options. You will upload this letter into myWrenford.
- Submit your exam schedule. Add your final exam dates to the Testing Centre portal by the deadline listed in your term calendar. You can also submit course instructor exam dates if they write their own tests.
- Check your confirmation. You will receive a confirmation email with your testing room, time, and any required equipment.
Available examination options
Your accommodation letter will list the specific options you qualify for. Common options include:
- Extended time: Extra time is added based on your documented need, usually in twenty-five or fifty percent increments.
- Separate testing environment: A quiet room or a room with reduced distractions if you need a quieter space to focus.
- Assistive technology: Use of a computer, screen reader, text-to-speech software, or a scribe who can read questions aloud.
- Breaks: Permission to step away from your desk for short periods during a timed exam.
- Alternate format: Large print, digital versions, or screen magnification if your disability makes standard print difficult to read.
The Testing Centre is located in the Falls Library & Learning Commons on the Benchlands Campus. Instructors at the Mercer Street Campus usually arrange separate rooms through their department office.
Important rules and deadlines
You must bring a valid student ID and your confirmation email to every exam. If you are late, you will not be allowed to write the exam. You must leave the testing area immediately when you finish, even if other students are still writing.
If your exam schedule changes or you need to cancel an exam due to illness, you must notify the Testing Centre and your instructor within forty-eight hours. You may need to provide supporting documentation from a medical professional.
