Report a change in financial circumstances
Process for updating government aid assessments due to job loss or medical issues.
If your income, family size, or living situation changes, you can ask the Student Financial Aid office to update your government student financial assistance assessment. This applies if you have lost a job, started a new job with different pay, have a medical emergency, or your household expenses have increased. Reporting these changes helps the provincial college application service recalculate your grants and loans so you receive the correct amount of funding.
Who can report a change
This process is for students who are currently receiving Ontario student financial assistance. If you have not applied for government aid yet, you do not need to use this form. You can apply through the provincial college application service when you submit your program application.
How to report a change
- Contact the Student Financial Aid office as soon as you know about the change. You can call 519-555-0173 or visit us in Hollis Hall, Room 202.
- Ask for the change of circumstances request form. You can also email [email protected] to start the process.
- Complete the form and list the change clearly. Include the date it started and how it affects your monthly income or expenses.
- Bring or email supporting proof. This could be a termination letter, a new pay stub, a medical bill, a rent increase notice, or a doctor's note. The office will review your documents to make sure they match the request.
- Wait for the reassessment. The Student Financial Aid office will send your updated information to the provincial service. They will recalculate your award and send a new award letter to your myWrenford portal and email.
When to report it
Report changes before your term starts if you know about them ahead of time. If the change happens during the term, report it as soon as possible. Late reports might delay your funding or mean you receive a smaller update than you need. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
What happens to your tuition and fees
When your government aid is updated, the new grant or loan amount will be applied to your student account. If your new award covers tuition and fees, your account balance will be adjusted automatically. If you need a tuition fee deferral while waiting for the new funds, ask the Student Financial Aid office. You can also look at Tuition & Fees for payment plan options.
Keep your information current
Your financial situation can change more than once during the year. You can report a new change at any time by following the steps above. The provincial service reviews each update based on the rules for the current academic year. If you have questions about how changes affect your loan or grant limits, contact us directly.
