Program Description

Design and operation of distillation, absorption, and extraction units for chemical mixtures.

About this course

Separation Processes covers the unit operations used to purify and isolate components from chemical mixtures. You will study the theory and practical design of distillation, absorption, and extraction systems commonly found in industrial plants.

The course builds on your knowledge of process instrumentation. You will learn to calculate stage requirements, evaluate mass transfer rates, and select equipment that meets safety and efficiency standards. Laboratory sessions let you observe separation behaviour in small-scale columns.

Who takes this course

This course is a core requirement for Chemical Process Technology students in their third year.

Credits: 3 · Hours: 45
