Program Description

Application of lean principles to eliminate waste and improve process efficiency.

About this course

This course introduces the core principles of lean manufacturing, focusing on the systematic identification and elimination of waste (muda) to improve process efficiency. You will learn how to analyse production flows, reduce variability, and implement continuous improvement strategies used in modern industrial settings. The curriculum emphasizes practical application, moving from theoretical concepts to real-world process optimization.

You will explore tools such as value stream mapping, 5S workplace organization, standard work, and pull-based production systems. Through case studies and simulated production environments, you will practice identifying non-value-added activities and developing solutions that enhance quality and reduce lead times without increasing costs.

Who takes this course

MFGT 3260 is an elective course available to students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Engineering Technician programs.
