Program Description

Advanced 3D modeling, rendering, and drafting using industry-standard software packages.

About this course

In MFGT 2940 Computer Aided Design, you move beyond basic sketching to master the tools that drive modern manufacturing. You will learn to build complex 3D models, generate precise technical drawings, and create visualizations that help engineers and clients understand your designs. The course focuses on parametric modeling, where every dimension is linked so that changes update automatically throughout the model.

You will work with industry-standard software packages in the Tamarack Building shops and labs. The curriculum covers solid modeling, surface modeling, and assembly management. You will also learn how to export your designs for use in other systems, such as simulation or manufacturing equipment.

Who takes this course

This course is an elective for students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program. It is also open to students in the Manufacturing Engineering Technician program who have completed their core drafting requirements. Students in the Bachelor of Applied Technology — Advanced Manufacturing program may take this course as a technical elective.

Credits: 3 · Hours: 60
