Program Description

Fundamental principles of direct and alternating current circuits, including Ohm's law and Kirchhoff's rules.

About this course

ELTR 1110 introduces the fundamental principles governing direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) circuits. You will explore the relationships between voltage, current, and resistance, mastering the application of Ohm's law and Kirchhoff's rules to solve practical circuit problems. The course places a strong emphasis on both theoretical analysis and hands-on verification in the lab.

You will learn to simplify complex series, parallel, and series-parallel networks, calculate power distribution, and analyse the behaviour of basic AC waveforms. This course is a core requirement for the Electrical Techniques program and serves as an essential foundation for advanced trades and engineering technology studies.

Who takes this course

This course is open to all students in the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation. It is frequently taken as an elective by students in the School of Energy & Applied Engineering who need a refresher on circuit fundamentals.
