School of Energy & Applied Engineering

School of Energy & Applied Engineering

Welcome to the School of Energy & Applied Engineering. You will find hands-on training in engineering technology, manufacturing, and power systems here. Our programs prepare you for careers in industries that keep the lights on, build the machines, and manage the processes that power our communities. The school sits on the Benchlands Campus in the Escarpment Building, where you will work in modern labs and workshops. Rajesh Venkataraman serves as the dean of the school.

Departments

The school is made up of three departments. Each department focuses on a different area of applied technology:

  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering Technology covers power distribution, industrial controls, and electronics design. You will work with the department chair, Helena Varga, and faculty to build real systems.
  • Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Technology looks at machines, production lines, and robotics. The department chair, Douglas Ferreira, guides students through design and fabrication projects.
  • Power & Process Engineering teaches you how to manage energy systems, plants, and chemical processes. Ingrid Solberg chairs the department and helps you prepare for roles in utilities and manufacturing.

Programs

We offer certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and applied bachelor degrees. You can choose from:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology (Ontario College Advanced Diploma)
  • Electrical Engineering Technology (Part-time)
  • Electronics Engineering Technician (Ontario College Diploma)
  • Automation & Robotics (Ontario College Graduate Certificate)
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology (Ontario College Advanced Diploma)
  • Manufacturing Engineering Technician (Ontario College Diploma)
  • Bachelor of Applied Technology — Advanced Manufacturing (Bachelor of Applied Technology)
  • Power Engineering Technician (Ontario College Diploma)
  • Renewable Energy Systems (Ontario College Graduate Certificate)
  • Chemical Process Technology (Ontario College Advanced Diploma)

Facilities and labs

Classes and labs take place in the Escarpment Building on the Benchlands Campus. You will use industrial-grade equipment to design circuits, program control systems, run manufacturing simulations, and test power generation setups. Many programs include three paid co-op work terms so you can apply what you learn in real workplaces.
