Guest and overnight visitor policy

Guest and overnight visitor policy

This policy covers the rules for friends and family visiting residence students. It explains the limits on how long and how often guests can stay, and how you must register them. All visitors must follow the Residence code of conduct while on campus.

Who can visit

You may host friends, family members, or partners. Visitors must be 19 years old or older. If a visitor is under 19, you must provide a signed note from a parent or legal guardian before they arrive. All visitors must show a valid photo ID at the residence office.

Daytime visits

You do not need to register for daytime visitors who stay for less than four hours. You must bring your visitor to the residence office to show their photo ID before they enter the building. Visitors must sign in at the front desk and wear a temporary visitor badge at all times. You are responsible for your visitor's actions. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends. Visitors must keep noise down and stay in your room or approved common areas.

Overnight visits

You may request an overnight visitor for up to two consecutive nights. You are allowed four overnight visits per academic year. You must submit an overnight visitor request form through the Student Association portal at least three business days before the visit. The residence office will confirm your request by email.

Your visitor must provide a copy of their government-issued photo ID and sign a visitor agreement. Visitors must check in at the residence office before 8 p.m. on the day of the visit and check out by 11 a.m. the next morning. Visitors cannot stay in your room after checkout time. They must take their belongings with them or store them in the common area.

Important rules

  • Only the resident who made the request may host the overnight visitor. You cannot host more than one visitor at a time.
  • Visitors are not allowed in the residence building after 1 a.m. without special approval from the residence manager.
  • No visitors are allowed during residence move-in or move-out weekends.
  • You must keep your room door locked when your visitor is not inside.
  • The residence office can deny a visitor entry or ask a visitor to leave if they break the rules.
  • If a visitor is asked to leave, you cannot request another overnight visitor for thirty days.
