Accessibility accommodations

What are academic accommodations?

Academic accommodations are adjustments that help you learn and complete your coursework when a disability or health condition creates barriers. These adjustments are based on your specific needs and are designed to give you an equal chance to succeed. They do not lower the standards of your program. Instead, they remove the barriers so you can demonstrate what you have learned.

Who can apply

Any student at Wrenford Polytechnic who experiences barriers to learning because of a disability, chronic health condition, or mental health need may be eligible. This includes students with documented conditions and those who are still gathering medical documentation. You do not need a formal diagnosis to start the process, but you must be able to describe how your condition affects your studies.

How to apply for accommodations

Follow these steps to set up your academic adjustments. It is best to start early so your plan is ready before classes begin.

  1. Submit an accommodation request form. Log in to myWrenford and complete the online accommodation request form. This tells Accessibility Services that you need support.
  2. Provide documentation. You will need a letter from a qualified medical professional, such as a physician, psychologist, or psychiatrist. The letter must clearly state your diagnosis or describe your academic barriers, explain how your condition affects your learning, and recommend specific accommodations. If you do not have documentation yet, you can still meet with a specialist to discuss interim supports.
  3. Meet with an Accessibility Specialist. Once we receive your request and documentation, we will schedule an intake meeting. You can meet in person at our office or online. During this meeting, we will review your documentation, discuss your past experiences with accommodations, and talk about what will work best in a college setting.
  4. Receive and share your plan. After your meeting, we will create an Individual Accommodation Plan. You will receive a digital memo that outlines your approved adjustments. We will send this memo directly to your instructors. You do not need to disclose your diagnosis to your teachers. You can then meet with each instructor in a confidential setting to discuss how the accommodations will work in their classes.

Important deadlines and fees

There is no fee to apply for academic accommodations or to access the services provided by Accessibility Services. You are responsible for covering the cost of obtaining your medical documentation. We recommend submitting your accommodation request form at least two weeks before the start of a term. This gives us enough time to review your documentation and prepare your plan. If you submit your request later, we will still do our best to assist you, but some accommodations may not be ready by the first day of class.
