How to access support

Wrenford Polytechnic offers free, confidential counselling for every student. You can book an appointment with a registered counsellor to talk about stress, anxiety, relationships, grief, or any other challenge you are facing. There is no fee to register or attend a session.

To get started, call 519-555-0184 or email [email protected]. You can also book an appointment directly through the student portal. Walk-ins are welcome during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but an appointment is recommended.

Online tools and apps

Our curated list of internal and external tools, apps, and community supports for wellbeing includes free digital resources you can use anytime. These programs help you manage stress, build coping strategies, and track your mental health between visits.

  • Provincial mental health program: Access guided modules and self-help tools online.
  • Therapy assistance platform: Interactive exercises for mindfulness and cognitive behaviour strategies.
  • Peer support network: Connect with trained student volunteers for informal check-ins.

24/7 crisis lines

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For mental health crises outside of office hours, use these free, confidential lines:

  • Provincial crisis line (988): Get immediate support for suicidal thoughts or severe distress.
  • Provincial health advice line (811): Speak with a registered nurse for guidance.
  • Community support line (211): Find local resources for housing, food, and social services.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first appointment lasts about forty-five minutes. The counsellor will ask about your current situation, what brought you in, and what you hope to get out of counselling. You will work together on a plan that fits your schedule and goals. You can continue seeing the same counsellor or switch if you prefer. All conversations are strictly confidential, except when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

Additional resources

Beyond individual sessions, the Counselling & Wellness team runs workshops on time management, sleep hygiene, and exam stress throughout the term. Check the student portal for upcoming group sessions. For urgent mental health needs outside regular hours, visit Crisis support and urgent care for extended phone lines and emergency contacts.
