Scope and rules
Wrenford Polytechnic expects all students, staff, and visitors to follow college regulations regarding substance use on campus property. This applies to the Benchlands Campus at 1500 Benchlands Drive, the Mercer Street Campus at 240 Mercer Street, college housing, and all college-sponsored events. You must not use, possess, or distribute illegal drugs or unauthorised prescription medication while on college grounds. Alcohol is only permitted in areas where the college explicitly allows it, and you must be of legal age to participate.
Using or being under the influence of substances during classes, labs, or work terms can put you and others at risk. Students who violate this policy may face disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or dismissal. The college also follows provincial health and safety laws that require a safe learning environment for everyone.
Medical emergencies
If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency related to substance use, your safety comes first. Call 911 immediately. The college prioritises health and safety over discipline in emergency situations. Campus Security is available 24 hours a day at 519-555-0176 to assist with any urgent situation. When you call for help, medical staff and college officials will focus on stabilising the student rather than applying disciplinary measures.
Reporting and support
If you notice behaviour that suggests a student is struggling with substance use, or if you see a violation of this policy, you can report it securely. You can contact Campus Security to report safety concerns, or use the Report a safety concern form online. All reports are handled in line with privacy law and college policies.
Support is available for students who want help. The Counselling & Wellness office offers free confidential sessions with trained counsellors. You can also visit the Health Centre for medical advice and referrals. If you are a student in residence, the Residence staff can connect you with on-campus support resources.
