What is transfer credit?
If you have completed courses at another college, university, or adult education centre, you may be able to apply those credits toward a program at Wrenford Polytechnic. Transfer credit can reduce the number of courses you need to take, which may help you finish your credential faster.
Transfer credit is only awarded for courses that match the learning outcomes and credit value of a Wrenford Polytechnic course. The Registrar evaluates every request. Courses with a grade below a D or a passing mark of 50% do not transfer. Failed courses are not recorded on your academic history.
Who is eligible?
You must be accepted into a full-time or part-time program at Wrenford Polytechnic before your transfer credit is processed. If you are applying through the provincial college application service, you can submit your transfer credit request at the same time. Part-time and Continuing Education students register directly and submit their requests through the Registrar.
How to apply
Follow these steps to request transfer credit:
- Apply and receive an admission offer for a Wrenford Polytechnic program.
- Complete the Transfer Credit Request form.
- Send official transcripts from every post-secondary institution you have attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution or dropped off in a sealed, stamped envelope. Scanned copies are not accepted.
- Include detailed course outlines or syllabi if your course does not have a direct equivalent in our database. Provide topics, learning outcomes, assessments, and textbooks.
- Submit your completed package to the Registrar.
Applications are accepted year-round. We recommend applying at least eight weeks before your program start date to ensure your credits are processed before registration opens.
Deadlines and processing times
The Registrar processes transfer credit requests as quickly as possible. If you submit your materials by the term deadline, every effort is made to have your evaluation complete before you register. Deadlines are:
- For Fall Term: requests must be received by August 15.
- For Winter Term: requests must be received by December 15.
- For Spring/Summer Term: requests must be received by April 15.
Requests that include detailed course outlines or require an exception may take up to three months to process. If you need transfer credit to meet a prerequisite for a specific course, contact the course instructor directly to request a prerequisite override. Overrides are at the instructor's discretion and are only valid for one term.
Fees
There is no fee to apply for transfer credit from Ontario post-secondary institutions. A $150 fee applies to transcripts from out-of-province institutions. Out-of-country requests are billed at one billing credit per course. Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) requests carry a separate fee based on the number of credits assessed.
Results and next steps
Once your evaluation is complete, the Registrar will update your student record in myWrenford. You will receive an email when the results are posted. You can view your unofficial transcript to see the credits granted.
If your transfer credit is approved, you do not need to register for the equivalent course. If the credit is not approved, you must register for the Wrenford Polytechnic course to meet your program requirements. Please note that transfer credits are recorded separately on your academic history and do not affect your Wrenford Polytechnic grade point average.
If you have questions about the process, contact the Registrar at 519-555-0172 or email [email protected].
