Getting started with Accessibility Services
Wrenford Polytechnic is committed to creating an accessible learning environment for everyone. If you experience barriers to your learning because of a disability or health condition, you can register with Accessibility Services. Registration allows us to put academic accommodations in place so you can succeed in your program.
Who can register
You can register if you have a permanent, temporary, or episodic disability or health condition that creates a barrier in the classroom, labs, or shops. This includes learning disabilities, mental health conditions, mobility impairments, chronic illnesses, and temporary injuries. You do not need a formal diagnosis to start the process, but you will need documentation from a regulated health professional to confirm your eligibility for accommodations.
Three steps to register
Follow these steps to set up your accommodations before your program starts.
- Prepare your medical documentation. You must submit current documentation from a qualified health professional. The document must confirm your diagnosis, describe your functional limitations, and explain how your condition impacts your studies. Ask your doctor to use the Accessibility Services medical form so they provide exactly the information we need.
- Submit your documents online. Log into myWrenford with your student credentials. Complete the Student Intake and Self-Assessment form and upload your medical documentation.
- Schedule an intake appointment. After you submit your documents, wait two business days. Then contact Accessibility Services to book a meeting. During the appointment, you will discuss your needs and create a tailored support plan.
Documentation requirements
Medical documentation must be completed by a regulated health practitioner, such as a physician, registered psychologist, or psychiatrist. It must clearly state your diagnosis or describe the challenges you face, explain how your condition affects your learning, and include recommendations for academic accommodations. Individualized Program Plans from high school or prescription pad notes do not meet post-secondary requirements.
Learning disabilities. If you have a learning disability, you must submit a current psycho-educational or neuro-psychological assessment completed by a registered psychologist or psychological associate. The assessment must have been completed within the last five years or when you were 18 or older.
Temporary disabilities. If you have a temporary condition, your documentation must outline the functional limitations resulting from the condition and provide an anticipated date of recovery. Minor illnesses like the flu should be discussed directly with your instructor.
Fees and deadlines
There is no fee to submit an application to Wrenford Polytechnic or to register with Accessibility Services. You are responsible for paying any fees charged by your doctor or health professional to complete the required medical documentation. We recommend registering at least six weeks before your classes begin. For accommodations that require extra time, such as Braille textbooks or specific physical access needs, plan to register four to six months before your program starts.
