Summary

The Automotive & Heavy Equipment department offers training in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and heavy machinery operation through certificates, diplomas, and apprenticeship programs.

About the department

The Automotive & Heavy Equipment department prepares students for careers in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and heavy machinery operation. You will learn through a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on training in our fully equipped shops. Our programs cover everything from light vehicle repair to the operation and maintenance of large-scale construction and agricultural equipment.

Programs

We offer three programs that lead to certificates, diplomas, or apprenticeship training:

Facilities

Most of your training takes place in the Tamarack Building, which houses the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation. The building contains dedicated automotive bays with lift systems and diagnostic tools, as well as heavy equipment yards for outdoor practical sessions. All shops follow strict safety protocols, and you must wear approved safety footwear at all times.

Department leadership

The department is chaired by Ricardo Salvatore, who oversees curriculum development, industry partnerships, and student success initiatives. He works closely with local manufacturers and transportation companies to keep our training aligned with current industry standards.
