Program Description

Covers advanced electrical troubleshooting, wiring diagrams, and sensor integration in heavy equipment.

About this course

Heavy Equipment Electrical Systems builds on the fundamentals you learned in HVEQ 1220. You will move beyond basic circuits to explore the complex electrical architectures found in modern heavy equipment. The course focuses on advanced troubleshooting techniques, allowing you to locate faults in sensors, actuators, and electronic control modules.

You will spend most of your contact hours in the Tamarack Building shops, working on actual equipment. You will practice reading detailed wiring diagrams, using scan tools to read fault codes, and performing precision repairs on wiring harnesses and connectors. Safety is a core part of the curriculum, with specific attention to high-voltage systems found in hybrid and electric machinery.

Who takes this course

This course is an elective for students in the Motive Power Technician program. It is also open to students in other skilled trades programs who have completed the required electrical fundamentals and need advanced diagnostics training.
