Application of spatial technologies to environmental monitoring and assessment.
About this course
GEOM 3510 Environmental Geomatics explores how spatial technologies support environmental monitoring and assessment. You will learn to use remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) to track changes in natural resources and land use.
The course covers practical applications such as mapping wetlands, monitoring deforestation, assessing flood risks, and supporting environmental impact statements. You will work with satellite imagery, aerial photography, and field-collected data to produce actionable insights for environmental management.
Who takes this course
GEOM 3510 is an elective available to students in the Geomatics Technician and Civil Engineering Technology programs. It is also open to students in the GIS & Remote Sensing graduate certificate.
This course builds on your foundational knowledge of geomatics principles and GIS software. You should be comfortable with spatial data concepts and basic map production before starting.
For more information, see the Civil Engineering & Geomatics department page or contact the Registrar with questions about course registration.
