Program Description

Introduction to PLC hardware, programming languages, and troubleshooting industrial automation systems.

About this course

Programmable logic controllers are the backbone of modern industrial automation. In this course, you will move beyond basic wiring and learn how to program these systems to manage complex machinery. You will explore the hardware architecture of control units, study the standard programming languages used in industry, and practice troubleshooting logic faults in simulated environments.

Using the lab equipment in the Tamarack Building, you will write, upload, and test ladder logic programs. The course places a strong emphasis on safety and documentation, ensuring you can maintain and modify systems in a professional work environment.

Who takes this course

This course is an elective for students in the Electrical & Mechanical Trades programs, particularly those in the Construction & Maintenance Electrician (Apprenticeship) stream.
