Technical aspects of artificial and natural lighting systems for interiors, covering design principles, calculations, and code requirements.
Course overview
This course explores the technical and aesthetic principles of lighting design for interior environments. You will study the properties of light, the psychology of illumination, and the practical application of artificial and natural lighting systems. The curriculum covers photometric calculations, luminaire selection, and the integration of lighting controls to achieve energy-efficient and visually comfortable spaces.
Students will learn to interpret lighting standards and codes, including the Ontario Building Code requirements for egress and safety. Practical exercises involve using industry-standard software to create lighting layouts and specifications for residential and commercial projects.
