Campus photography policy

What this policy covers

This policy sets out the rules for taking photographs or recording video on Wrenford Polytechnic campuses. It applies to all students, staff, visitors, and members of the public. The scope covers restrictions on taking photos or recording video of people and sensitive areas on campus. We follow privacy law and keep the learning and working environment safe and respectful.

Where you can take photos

You are welcome to take photos for personal use in most open campus spaces. You can capture images in the Student Union Building, the Kestrel Centre, the exterior grounds of the Benchlands Campus, and the exterior of the Mercer Street Campus. The Falls Library & Learning Commons allows photography in the public reading areas, provided you keep noise to a minimum and do not block walkways.

Areas where photography is restricted

Some spaces require special permission because they contain sensitive equipment, patient data, or private resident information. You must not take photos or record video in the following areas without written approval from the relevant department head or Campus Security:

  • Corvid Hall simulation centre and health science labs
  • Kingfisher Building engineering and trades workshops
  • Larch House and Ashgrove House residence corridors and suites
  • The Health Centre
  • The Student Financial Aid and Registrar offices
  • Any space marked with a "No Photography" sign

If you are a student in a program that requires photography for coursework, your instructor will arrange the necessary access and cover any required consent forms.

Photographing people

Respect for privacy is a core part of this policy. You must not photograph or record a student, staff member, or visitor without their clear consent. If you plan to take photos of a group event, post them on social media, or use them for promotional material, you must obtain written permission from every person who will be visible. Staff and faculty who appear in official college media will be covered by their employment agreement, but you still need to ask for permission if you are a student or visitor.

Requesting permission for professional or media use

If you are a journalist, a marketing agency, or a student organisation planning a formal shoot that requires tripods, lighting, or multiple hours of recording, you must submit a request to the Media Relations office. Please allow at least five business days for processing. Your request should include the date, time, location, equipment list, and the names of all photographers. Approved requests will be sent a campus media pass and a brief safety orientation.
