What to wear
You need to wear appropriate clothes to every class, lab, shop, and clinical placement at Wrenford Polytechnic. The goal is to keep you safe and ready to learn. Dress codes apply on both the Benchlands Campus and the Mercer Street Campus. Your program handbook will list the exact requirements for your courses.
Wear clothes that cover your body and fit your work. Closed-toe and closed-heel shoes are required in all classrooms and labs. Avoid loose clothing, sandals, open-toe shoes, and long necklaces that could get caught in equipment. Bring a clean pair of work boots if you are in a trades or engineering program. You must remove all jewellery before entering practical workspaces.
Shops and labs
If you are in the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation, the School of Energy & Applied Engineering, or the School of Construction & the Environment, you must wear a full-body denim or canvas coverall in the shops. You can wear your coverall over your clothes. Tie back long hair and secure loose items before entering the Tamarack Building or the Escarpment Building labs. You must wear safety glasses and hearing protection where posted.
If you do not have the right clothes, you cannot take part in the lab or shop. Keep your spare work clothes in your locker or in the Student Union Building if you need to change before or after class.
Clinical placements
Students in the School of Health Sciences must follow the dress code of their placement site. You will wear a program-specific uniform during your clinical shifts. Check with your program chair for the exact uniform requirements. You must complete the Student Health Clearance Form before your first shift. Health clearance deadlines are September 1 for the Fall term, January 15 for the Winter term, and May 1 for the Spring/Summer term.
