Technology use guidelines

Technology use guidelines

You can use Wrenford Polytechnic computers, networks, software and digital resources to support your studies and work. These guidelines explain how to use our technology responsibly and legally. They apply to all students, faculty, staff and visitors who access college systems or devices.

What you can do

  • Use college computers and Wi-Fi for coursework, research and personal study.
  • Access licensed software and online learning platforms through your student account.
  • Connect personal devices to the college network after registering them in the student portal.
  • Request equipment or technical support through the IT Service Desk.

What you cannot do

College technology is a shared resource. You must not:

  • Share your login credentials with anyone else.
  • Install unlicensed or pirated software on college devices.
  • Bypass security settings or access restricted areas of the network.
  • Use college systems to harass, threaten or discriminate against others.
  • Download or share copyrighted material without permission.

Privacy and security

Wrenford Polytechnic monitors network traffic to protect your data and keep our systems running smoothly. We do not read your personal files, but we may review network activity if there is a safety concern or a reported violation. You are responsible for protecting your account and any college equipment you are issued. Report lost or stolen devices to Campus Security immediately.

Reporting problems and requesting support

If you experience technical issues, follow these steps:

  1. Check the IT Service Desk website for common solutions.
  2. Submit a request through the student portal.
  3. Call or email the IT Service Desk if the issue is urgent.

For hardware problems, visit the IT Service Desk at the Benchlands Campus or the Mercer Street Campus. Bring your student ID and the device you need checked.

Fees and deadlines

Replacing damaged or lost college equipment costs $175 per item. You must submit a replacement request within ten business days of the loss or damage. If you fail to report a missing device within the deadline, you may be held responsible for the full replacement cost and face temporary loss of network access.
