Outdoor gear you can borrow
Wrenford Polytechnic Athletics & Recreation lets you borrow outdoor equipment for your weekend trips. You can take out kayaks, bicycles, and camping supplies directly from the office. This service is free for current students with a valid student card. Borrowing gear helps you explore the Ontario outdoors without buying expensive equipment you might only use a few times a year.
Who can borrow equipment
Any currently enrolled full-time or part-time student at Wrenford Polytechnic can use the program. You must show your student card when you pick up and return your gear. Faculty and staff can borrow equipment on a limited basis, subject to availability. You are responsible for the care of all items while they are in your possession.
How to reserve your gear
- Visit the Athletics & Recreation office in the Kestrel Centre on the Benchlands Campus.
- Speak with a staff member and tell them what you need and when you plan to use it.
- Fill out a simple equipment request form and present your student card.
- Collect your gear before the office closes on the day of your trip.
- Return all items on the agreed date and time. Late returns may affect your future booking privileges.
Equipment available
We keep a rotating selection of outdoor supplies. Most weeks you will find:
- Two-person and four-person kayaks
- Mountain bikes and road bikes
- Tents, sleeping bags, and camping stoves
- Backpacking packs and hydration systems
Availability changes with the seasons. We store more gear in the spring and summer, and switch to winter supplies like snowshoes and cross-country skis in the colder months. All equipment is inspected for safety before you take it home.
Fees and deadlines
There is no fee to borrow standard outdoor gear. You must return items by the time listed on your request form. If you need the equipment for more than a weekend, please ask for an extension at least two business days before your planned return date. Damaged or missing items will be charged to your student account.
