Join a Wrenford Kestrels varsity team
If you want to compete at the highest level of college sport, you can try out for one of our varsity teams. The Wrenford Kestrels play in the provincial college athletics conference. We field teams in men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, men's volleyball, co-ed curling, co-ed badminton, women's soccer, and men's soccer. Playing for a Kestrel team means you will represent Wrenford Polytechnic in competition, travel for games, and support your teammates.
Who can try out
Varsity tryouts are open to any full-time student enrolled at Wrenford Polytechnic. You must be in good academic standing and able to attend regular practice sessions and weekend games. If you have played your sport before, bring your equipment and any relevant records. If you are new to the sport, tell the coaches at the info session. We welcome all skill levels and focus on building a strong team culture.
How to try out
Follow these steps to join a team:
- Check the tryout calendar on the Athletics & Recreation page for your sport's date and time.
- Complete the online tryout registration form. You will need to provide your student number and emergency contact details.
- Pay the team registration fee. This covers your uniform, practice gear, and competition insurance.
- Arrive at the Kestrel Centre or Kestrel Field at least 15 minutes before your scheduled slot. Bring your student card, water bottle, and any personal protective equipment required for your sport.
- Attend the tryout session. Coaches will evaluate skills, fitness, and teamwork. You will also meet current team members and learn about the season schedule.
Fees and deadlines
Each team has a registration fee of $150 per term. This fee is due two weeks before the first tryout session. Financial support is available through the provincial college athletics scholarship program if the fee is a barrier. You can apply for bursaries through the Student Financial Aid office. Please register for tryouts by the posted deadline. Late registrations are only accepted if a team has not reached its roster limit.
