Resit a failed exam

What is an exam resit?

If you did not reach the passing grade on a course exam, you may be able to resit it. A resit lets you write the exam again so you can improve your mark. You can only resit an exam if your program and your instructor allow it. Not every course offers a resit option.

Who is eligible?

  • You must be a currently registered student in good academic standing.
  • Your program must allow a resit for the specific course.
  • You must have received a failing grade on the original exam.
  • You must pay the resit fee before the registration deadline.

If you have already used your one allowed resit for a course, you cannot write it again. Some programs limit resits to one attempt per course. Check your program requirements or ask your academic advisor to confirm your eligibility.

How to register for a resit

Follow these steps to book your resit exam:

  1. Check your program requirements to confirm the course allows a resit.
  2. Pay the resit fee through the student portal. You can pay by cheque, debit, or credit card.
  3. Log in to myWrenford and open the Testing Centre booking page.
  4. Select the course and your chosen resit date from the available slots.
  5. Confirm your booking and print your admission ticket.

You must complete all four steps before the deadline. If you miss the deadline, you will need to wait until the next term or year to write the exam again.

Fees and deadlines

The fee to resit a course exam is $125. This fee is non-refundable once you have booked your slot. You must pay the fee within ten business days of the original exam grade being posted in myWrenford. Late payments will delay your booking and may result in a $25 late fee.

Resit exams are scheduled during the regular Testing Centre hours. You will see the exact dates and times when you open the booking page in myWrenford. Slots fill quickly, so book as soon as you pay.

What to bring on exam day

When you arrive for your resit, you must bring the following items:

  • Your printed admission ticket from myWrenford.
  • One piece of valid photo identification (student ID card, driver's licence, or passport).
  • A non-programmable scientific calculator. Phones and smart watches are not allowed.
  • Pens and pencils. Erasers are recommended.

Arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled time. If you arrive late, you may not be allowed to write the exam. The Testing Centre staff will check your identification and admission ticket before you enter the room.
