What are group sessions and workshops?
Group sessions and workshops are regular meetings led by a trained Counselling & Wellness staff member or a peer facilitator. Instead of a one-on-one appointment, these sessions bring together a small group of students who share similar goals or challenges. You will practice new skills, share experiences in a safe space, and learn how to manage stress, time, and study habits.
Who can attend
These sessions are open to every student at Wrenford Polytechnic. You do not need a referral to join, and you do not need to be in a crisis to participate. Whether you are in your first term or finishing your diploma, you can find a group that fits your schedule and interests.
Types of sessions
- Peer support groups: Facilitated by trained student volunteers with staff oversight. These meetings focus on shared experiences, such as adjusting to college life, managing exam anxiety, or building confidence. The peer support network provides informal check-ins in a relaxed setting.
- Skill-building workshops: Led by counsellors and wellness professionals. Topics include mindfulness, sleep hygiene, conflict resolution, and academic planning. You will leave with practical tools you can use right away.
How to register
Joining a group is simple. Follow these steps:
- Visit the Counselling & Wellness page to view the current schedule.
- Check the room or virtual link for the group you want to join.
- Walk in or log on at the start time. No advance booking is required for most weekly groups.
- If you are unsure which group is right for you, email [email protected] or call 519-555-0184 to ask for a recommendation.
Fees and deadlines
There is no fee to register or attend a group session or workshop. The service is free for all currently enrolled students. Sessions run on a rolling basis, so you can drop in whenever your schedule allows. If a specific workshop requires limited seating, the staff member will note the capacity on the schedule.
Need more support?
Group sessions are a great way to build a support network, but they do not replace individual care. If you need a private conversation, book a counselling appointment. For urgent help outside of business hours, please visit crisis support and urgent care.
Accessibility and privacy
We follow Wrenford Polytechnic accessibility standards for all meetings. If you need an accommodation, such as captioning or a quiet room, tell the facilitator in advance. All discussions in these groups are confidential, and we follow privacy law to protect your information.
