Who can use counselling services
Any student currently registered in a full-time, part-time, or online program at Wrenford Polytechnic can book an appointment. The service supports students dealing with stress, relationship changes, academic pressure, career planning, or general wellness. You do not need a diagnosis or a mental health condition to attend. If you are unsure whether counselling is right for you, the team can help you figure it out during your first meeting.
How to book an appointment
Booking a session is straightforward. You can choose the method that works best for your schedule.
Step 1: Choose your contact method
You can book by phone, email, or in person. Phone is the fastest way to secure a time slot that matches your availability. If you prefer to write first, you can send an email with your name, student number, and the type of support you are looking for.
Step 2: Share your details
When you contact the office, you will need to provide your full name, student number, and a brief note about what you want help with. The staff will ask if you have a preferred counsellor or if you would like the office to match you with someone based on your needs and background.
Step 3: Confirm your time
Once a slot is available, the receptionist will confirm the date, time, and location. You will receive a confirmation email with the address and a link to review the consent form. If your schedule changes, please call at least twenty-four hours in advance so the slot can open up for another student.
What to expect at your first visit
Your first meeting is about setting the stage. You will review the Information and Consent to Counsel Form, which explains how your information is kept private and how the service works. After that, you will talk with your counsellor about what brought you in and what you hope to achieve. Together, you will set a few clear goals and decide if you need follow-up sessions. You can bring a friend or family member if you want support, but please note that their presence changes the confidentiality rules. If you feel the counsellor is not a good fit, you can ask to meet with someone else at any time.
Fees and deadlines
There is no fee to book or attend a counselling session. The service is covered by your student fees, so you will not receive a separate bill. There are no deadlines to book, but appointments are typically scheduled one to two weeks in advance. Peak times during midterms and final exams fill up quickly, so booking early is recommended. If you need to cancel, please give twenty-four hours notice.
Need urgent help?
If you are in crisis or worried about your immediate safety, tell the receptionist when you call. The office keeps a few same-day slots open each day for urgent situations. If you cannot get through or need help outside of business hours, please visit the Crisis support and urgent care page for 24-hour resources.
