Request a room change

Why you might need a room change

You can apply to move to a different room or residence building if you have a conflict with your current roommate, need a quieter space for your studies, or require specific accessibility features. We want you to have a living environment that supports your health and your program.

When to apply

You should submit your request as soon as you identify a problem. Changes are harder to arrange during the first two weeks of a term once classes are underway. If your situation involves a safety concern or harassment, contact Campus Security right away.

How to apply

Follow these steps to request a transfer:

  1. Fill out the Room Change Request form. You can pick up a printed copy at the Residence office or download it from the student portal.
  2. Submit the form to the Residence office. You must include a brief description of your reason for the change.
  3. Meet with the Residence manager to discuss your situation. This meeting is confidential and helps us find a suitable solution.
  4. Wait for a decision. We will contact you by email within five business days to confirm your new room assignment or explain why the request cannot be approved.

Academic and accessibility needs

If you need a room change for medical or academic reasons, please attach a note from your healthcare provider or academic advisor. Students who require accessibility accommodations should also contact Accessibility Services so we can ensure your new room meets your needs.

Fees and deadlines

There is no fee to request a room change. Your annual residence fee remains fixed at $7,950 for a traditional room or $9,100 for a suite, regardless of the transfer. You must submit your request at least ten business days before the start of a term for the change to take effect for that term.

Who to contact

If you have questions about the process or need help filling out the form, visit the Residence office or call 519-555-0175, ext. 4405 to speak with Kenji Morimoto, the Residence manager. You can also visit the Counselling & Wellness office if you need support dealing with roommate conflicts.
