Working on campus

Eligibility for on-campus work

You can work on campus while you study at Wrenford Polytechnic if you meet these conditions:

  • You are enrolled as a full-time student in a certificate, diploma, or applied degree program.
  • You hold a valid study permit that allows you to work in Canada.
  • You have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).

On-campus employment includes any building owned or leased by Wrenford Polytechnic. If you are registered at the Benchlands Campus (1500 Benchlands Drive), you may only work at the Benchlands Campus. If you are registered at the Mercer Street Campus (240 Mercer Street), you may only work at the Mercer Street Campus. You cannot work at facilities belonging to other institutions. Employers on campus include the college itself, student associations, campus stores, and private contractors who provide services on site.

Application process

Wrenford Polytechnic does not hire students through a single central office. Individual departments and campus partners hire directly. Follow these steps to find and apply for a position:

  1. Log in to the myWrenford portal and navigate to the student employment dashboard.
  2. Upload a current resume and cover letter. You can get free feedback at Co-op & Career Services.
  3. Check the campus notice boards in Hollis Hall and the Mill Building for weekly job postings.
  4. Apply directly to the hiring manager listed on the posting. Include your student ID and SIN.
  5. Complete the required new-hire paperwork with your employer within five business days of starting work.

Work hours and scheduling

On-campus employers understand that your studies come first. Most positions require between ten and twenty hours per week during the academic term. You are responsible for managing your schedule so that your work hours never conflict with your classes or labs. If your course load changes, tell your employer immediately. There is no hourly limit for on-campus work, but you must keep your grades up and stay in good academic standing.

Job listings and student employment

Open positions appear on the student employment dashboard in myWrenford every Monday morning. Jobs rotate through the fall, winter, and spring/summer terms. Common roles include library assistants, campus tour guides, fitness centre attendants, and food services staff. You can also visit the Campus Store or the Falls Library & Learning Commons to pick up a printed job flyer. Some departments post physical flyers in the hallways near their offices.

For questions about your study permit work conditions or to confirm your eligibility, contact the International Students office. You can reach them by phone at 519-555-0174 or by email at [email protected]. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
