FAQs about bursaries
Need-based bursaries at Wrenford Polytechnic are awarded to help cover your living costs, course materials, and transit passes. They are not loans, so you do not have to pay them back. The following questions cover the basics of eligibility, deadlines, and renewal for all full-time and part-time students.
What is a need-based bursary?
A need-based bursary is a form of gift funding awarded to students who show financial need. Unlike entrance scholarships, which look at your grades, bursaries focus on your household income and expenses. You can use the money for rent, groceries, textbooks, and public transit. The bursary is listed in your financial aid package once the office reviews your application. International students are also eligible to apply for these awards.
How do I apply and what are the deadlines?
You apply through the provincial college application service when you apply to your program, or directly through myWrenford if you are already enrolled. You will need to submit a financial need statement and, in some cases, proof of income or a tax slip. The application window opens on August 1 each year. The deadline for the fall term is October 15, 2026, and the deadline for the winter term is January 15, 2027. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered for the next available term.
How do I renew a bursary?
Bursaries are not automatic. You must reapply every term. To keep your bursary, you need to maintain a minimum average of 60 per cent in your courses from the previous term and remain enrolled full-time. If your financial situation changes, you can submit a change of status form to request a reassessment at any time.
How much funding is available?
The maximum award is $1,500 per term. The actual amount depends on your demonstrated need, your enrollment status, and other funding you may have received. Bursary funds are paid directly to your student account to cover outstanding balances, and any remaining balance is issued to you by cheque or direct deposit within five business days.
Who can I contact for help?
